Who's a gay mans best friend? Well they're similar to us, and we only fantasise about them because we can't have them, as if straight guys are hotter then us. Yes, straight guys are a gay mans best friend. Before something drastic happend in my best friends family that hindered him from ever seeing me again, I had a straight guy fag hag. Was it the sh*t? Yes... yes it was the sh*t. I had a another straight guy fag hag one summer..... it was weird because he came out for me! Not that I'm obvious but he saw the pictures in my wallet and said, "Guy, I know your gay, who ellse would have pictures of topless skater guys in their wallets? I don't care though, honostly." And he smiled. That to me must of taken some gutts for him to do because he's the straightest guy I know and we were alone at his cottage. It's important to be out to your straight friends, both male and female. In being a better friend to your straight friends, you can really demystify and demolish what they truly believe homosexuality to be, and what it means to them. Something I have heard many times to be called, Everyday Activism.

So are you out? As out comic Judy Carter says in her stereotypically exadurated book, The Homo Handbook, "Yeah sure, I'm out. Everyone I slept with knows I'm queer." Oh, how darling of you. Did you also reveal to the people you work with that you're a secretary? Wow." Coming out is terrifying and exciting all at the same time, so procrastinate all you want, there will come a time when you feel it is the right time. Why do you think it is so hard to come out to your straight friends? |

Beside the plethera of other reasons you may not wanna come out to your straight friends, I think its safe to say that we don't want to feel or be rejected from them. I think its an act of extreme courage. Why is it so carageous? Through our experiences as kids, we learned that if we want to be apart of a particular group, we must conform. We have learned from playing in our elimentary school yards that to be truthful and honost to ourselves and to others, can lead to the loss of friends and alot of pain.
Because my sister outed me in 2002 in the horrifying school of JOHN MCCRAE SECONDARY SCHOOL, I lost everybody I knew practically. All that was left was girls, I lost every straight male friend I ever had and my life drastically changed from there in. I was now a step below the geeks in the John Mccrae hierarchy. So inside school was pretty bad, never had a chance to sincerely come out with integrity, I just looked like a straight guy with a dirty secret. There maybe 2000 students at John McCrae, but outside of school there were millions! I had to start fresh, so I dropped the bastards and transferred to Fredrick Banting in Kanata, an Alternate School. I heard it was pretty rough with all the thugs and trouble makers there, for a gay guy to actually try and fit in was scarey. However, no one knew me, which was amazing because it really felt like I was starting a new life. I came out at the right time and before I knew it the thugs were asking me out for beer and a game of pool. So I lost straight friends, and I gained some.
Obviously the end result of coming out, whether your starting fresh or not, will drastically differ from everybody ellses experiences. I know that from what I have seen friends go through. But you will lose and you will gain everything from respect to straight friends. Everybody has had lovers, whether its 2 or 20, we know that they come and go, but straight friends have been a solid foundation for support. Through almost every situation you can go through, they will be there. So the idea of letting go of your straight friends is garbage, is it not easier to find a lover then a friend? I mean, lets put it this way, a straight friend will never sleep with your lover! That's a plus! With this being said I will end this article on a positive and simple note directed to our straight friends, Straight Friends NEVER let us Go and never leave home without us!
